SolusOS 1.2 Eveline

SolusOS 1.2 is now available here It is the upgraded version of Eveline with new wallpaper, a new startup theme, and updated software such as LibreOffice 3.6.

I've gushed much over SolusOS in the past, and have found Eveline to be so solid and reliable that it is my go-to Linux distribution. I'm continually impressed by its main developer Ikey, his dedication to the project and availability to the community is exceptional.

SolusOS is built upon Debian Stable, and features the Gnome 2 desktop. The next SolusOS 2 will feature the Solus Desktop Environment (SDE). The SDE is a heavily tweaked Gnome 3 Classic desktop with cardapio. In my view Ikey is saving Gnome from itself by carrying on the best of Gnome while Gnome's developers are focusing on a tablet interface, but that is another issue.

I know an operating system is doing its job when my wife never asks for help with her computer. Ikey is making my computer life too easy. I have to go to other operating systems to fix things, SolusOS truly just works.

In my view Debian is almost the perfect Linux distribution. What Debian lacks however is an easy installer, and main Debian Stable lacks updated software. SolusOS 1.2 offers both an easy installer and updated software. And SolusOS 2, which I expect we will see sometime early next year, promises an even easier installer.

SolusOS has become a favorite for my netbooks as it runs both fast and cool on low spec hardware. I have also tried Eveline on a system with 500 mb RAM and it runs reasonably well. I do not know of a more full-featured OS that runs so well on low spec hardware, and it would be lightning on nicer hardware.

Great job Ikey and team, SolusOS grows more impressive by the day!
